About DAR

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded on October 11, 1890, with the purposes of historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavor. Any woman at least 18 years of age, who can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence, is eligible for membership.

The National Society accomplishes the majority of its work under a committee system. Focus of some committees includes: educational programs, scholarship competitions, citizenship awards, literacy programs, lineage research, commemorative events, just to name a few. For more information visit the NSDAR web site.

Wherever your interest lies, the DAR has a program area where you can enjoy working with other women to support God, Home, and Country.

About Us

Valley of Fire Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, was organized on June 12, 1957, by Mrs. Knute A. Johansen, organizing regent, and 26 organizing members.
Our chapter chose its name in honor of the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada's oldest and largest state park. Established 1935, the Valley derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyphs.
